Carly Fiorina Criticizes Tina Fey As "Disrespectful...Sexist"

advertisement

From Fiorina:

I think that continues the line of argument that is disrespectful in the extreme, and yes, I would say, sexist in the sense that just because Sarah Palin has different views than Hillary Clinton does not mean that she lacks substance.

Huh? How on Earth was that skit sexist?

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Boy, when the GOP latches on to a concept, the will NOT let go. Now EVERYTHING is sexist. Nevermind the inequality they preserved as the status quo until now....look out! They've got a female candidate. Their sexism detectors are set to kill, not stun.

It's amazing - if Palin were a democrat, she would absolutely be called all kinds of awful names, including FEMINAZI by the right. But she's not a dem, so her working in a high-powered, male-dominated field (politics) and leaving her infant in daycare or with a nanny is just WONDERFUL! In fact, they thought of it first!

Well, something makes me doubt that many of the GOP talking heads retained ANYTHING from high school except for pettiness.

The skit was funny, there was nothing even REMOTELY sexist about it, unless you're going by the new definition of sexism: saying that Sarah Palin is a petty, inexperienced, ultraconservative wingnut who was probably picked just to pick up female voters, not to actually lead the party.

That being said, polls are finding her less and less favorable by the day.

It hasn't even been a year since McCain got a question from a supporter saying, "How do we beat the b*tch?" referring to Hillary Clinton. Also, Fiorina is one of those crapbag CEO's who got a golden parachute on her way out. If I read correctly she got $24 million when she was fired.

I am starting to think his party does not want him with his finger on the button either. He is running an ad that is like the greatest hits of his and her lies. Next he goes in front of an audience and claims the economy is strong just before the bad news this morning while she is in Ohio to give the same speech she gave in every other state she has been in. Now a woman does a skit on Palin and it is sexist? Oh I see its good old Carly again who with her actions at HP set back women for years. Since their bounce is gone they have to talk. The more they do the farther they will fall down the tubes.

All I have to say about the Republican view on service is George W. Bush:

In May 1968, Bush was accepted into the Texas Air National Guard, after scoring the lowest acceptable passing grade on the pilot's written aptitude test. After training, he was assigned to duty in Houston, flying Convair F-102s out of Ellington Air Force Base. Critics allege Bush was favorably treated because of his father's political standing, citing his lack of combat service and his irregular attendance. The United States Department of Defense released all the records of Bush's Texas Air National Guard service, which remain in its official archives. Although not accepted to the University of Texas School of Law in 1970, he accepted a transfer to the Alabama Air National Guard in 1972 to work on a Republican senate campaign, and in October 1973 he was discharged from the Texas Air National Guard. Bush then attended Harvard University, where he earned his MBA, and completed his six-year service obligation in the inactive reserve.

During this time Bush had multiple accounts of alcohol abuse. In one instance, Bush was arrested near his family's summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine for driving under the influence of alcohol at the age of thirty on September 4, 1976. He pleaded guilty, was fined US$150, and had his Maine driver's license suspended until 1978. Soon after, Bush entered the oil industry in Texas.

Gee, Saturday Night Live never did a skit before that made a politician look stupid by using their own words. I guess it's ok when they have been lampooning the Clintons for the last 8 years but somehow Palin is off limits. If she can't handle the heat of a TV show, how is she ever going to handle being President. If this is the level of Carly's intellect, no wonder she got dumped from HP.

I don't understand why it is always "Well the Repubs did this!" or "The Dems said that!" It's like two opposing football teams fighting for the Superbowl. The American people aren't even in the equation anymore. We're just the fans in the bleachers sticking by their team for no apparent reason. If I were in charge there would be no political parties.

Both of you need a sense of humor. Like I always say; you can put lipstick on a pig or a pit bull. & it's funny every single time.

As a matter of fact, even Palin thought that the skit was funny...

Palin on Fey: 'Quite Funny'

By Monica Davey

Well into the night on Saturday, somewhere in the dark skies between Reno and Denver, "Saturday Night Live" could be viewed on the mini-TV screens in the seatbacks aboard Gov. Sarah Palin's campaign plane.

Many reporters who fill the rear of the plane watched Tina Fey's portrayal of Ms. Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, but were left to muse about what Ms. Palin herself had thought of it — or whether she had watched it at all.

In the days since Ms. Palin's campaign set off for Alaska and now for her first solo campaign swing, she has spent her plane time (including a nearly 10-hour flight from Virginia to Fairbanks) ensconced at the front of the plane with family members and top aides, tucked away behind a curtain that separates everyone -– reporters, included — in the back.

At one point, her youngest daughter, Piper, ventured to the back with a campaign adviser, but Ms. Palin stayed put, leaving one television crew from "Entertainment Tonight" capturing an image of the plane's curtain, then whispering and motioning to its viewers that the candidate was apparently just a few rows up, just past that curtain, up that way.

On Sunday, a campaign adviser confirmed that Ms. Palin had, indeed, watched the "Saturday Night Live" skit from her screen at the front of the plane. "She thought it was quite funny," the adviser said in an email response to inquiries, "especially because the governor has dressed up as Tina Fey for Halloween."

This is standard operating procedure. You portray the Big Cheese (Palin) as taking the high road and being humble and magnanimous, while at the same time sending your underlings (Fiorina) out to slam and undermine the offender.

Don't be tricked into thinking that Palin really thought this was funny or that Fiorina actually thought this was sexist and dismissive. Palin was probably pissed off and Fiorina probably thought it was spot on, but there's no time for the truth - they each have their part to play.

Are the Republicans ignorant on purpose, or were they all failed by the educational system?

Huff Post, the day after the skit aired, had a still from the video and a picture of the REAL Palin at a campaign appearance with McCain and the resemblance was uncanny. I just kept scrolling up and down the page comparing the two while totally slack-jawed.

They did. They were two different articles. One was the skit and one was the real campaign event. But Fey and Palin, in those two respective photos, were SO similar, I was just in awe.

What this is well it's a very simple thing. All those woman out there that are fighting to move up the ladder and are being held back because of sexism. You know this just trivializes what you are going through as a woman. Thanks to the woman's superstar Sarah you better hope you never have to really face sexism because no one will take you seriously. That's what happens when someone picks you for a position your not qualified for Sarah. You are not prepared for your position so your using the fact that your a woman to justify you being there. When it should be that you earned it but in this case it was given to you because you are a woman. So since you didn't earn it you don't care about all those women out there that are trying to earn their way.

palin is a distraction. one it shows that mccain would rather win than do whats right
he picked a gimic passing over many people more qualified.
two yeah she doesnt have the credentials to be president
it could be argued that as long as the president survives.. biden with his senate carreer has more experience than she..because as long as the president survives the vp's most important role is as a legislator.. he is the president of the senate and breaks the tie votes.
But we should focus more on mccains choosing sarah palin, than sarah palin herself.
she is a distraction, a way to play the "under dog" card some more
the sexist card... look at those mean men attacking a woman.
she didnt choose to run for vp.. mccain chose her we need to focus on that.

You are so correct...instead of focusing on the critical issues of this country...war, the economy, health care...there are people who will vote (either Republican or Democrat) based on the personality of the candidates...as if this is all some kind of reality television program. And it's clear that the media drives a lot of this focus on personality instead of doing the hard work of reporting on the issues. I couldn't give a hoot in hell if Palin was a contestant in a beauty contest...I want to know what Congress did to deregulate the financial sector that let this country get in the economic mess it finds itself in today...and just what are the plans of the candidates to get us out of this turmoil
