Faith has outweighed fact at Der Tzitung, a Hasidic newspaper based in Brooklyn, New York.

The ultra-Orthodox Jewish publication ran a doctored copy of the iconic “Situation Room Photo” last Friday – you know, the one taken of President Barack Obama and his national security team during the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound.

Scrubbed from the picture: the two women in the room.

It’s as if Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, with her hand clasped over her mouth, and Audrey Tomason, director of counterterrorism, weren’t there and weren’t part of history.

There is something wrong with altering the facts of a story in this way. Either run the photo in its original state or don't run it.

This seems very Taliban-ish.

Douglasqm,

He didn't alter the facts of the story at all. Read the article, it shows both photos.

I believe he was referring to the hasidic newspaper that altered the photo -- against the copyright info and instructions on the photo itself that forbid the altering of the photo in any way.

This is nothing new, except the method used to erase women from history. Been done for centuries. Fortunately, today we can hold them accountable for their misogyny and expose their corruption.

Reminds me of the ancient Egyptians, they simply erased anything they didn't want public knowledge in an attempt to change history.

    rtg,

Don't have to look at ancient Egypt, I think that happened with the E mails and computer drives of the previous administration.

The Bolsheviks used to do that, Joe Stalin used to do that. I guess I should not be surprised that conservative religious followers would do that also.

This type of thing happened in biblical days, but of course not with photographs. Many wives of rabbis were not allowed to walk with them, and if crossing at a road or bazaar, they happened to be in the same proximity would not acknowledge her.

In Jerusalem today there's a group of Ultra Orthodox that practice something almost akin to Sharia law. They will hunt down Jewish girls or women who do not dress "appropriately", head and body mostly covered, and have them whipped.

The hasidic and other ultra orthodox jews are no different than the Taliban. They use violence and oppression to deny the human rights of women.

The ultra right sects in Isreal have even followed women home (women they do not know) and broken into their homes in order to harass, intimidate and violently assault them.

All fundamentalists from all religions are Neanderthal and are worthy only of ridicule. They have no place in our modern world.
